The Christmas Spirit

The passing of Thanksgiving is marked by the bombardment of Christmas music. We hear it everywhere, from our car radio to the local grocery store. In effect, it helps us get into the Christmas spirit; but what is the Christmas spirit?

Today’s reading from Isaiah invites us to enter into the Christmas spirit—one of longing and hope. We long for the child who is to come “from the stump of Jesse.” In our longing, we place hope in this child, who will bring about the delight of the “holy mountain” that Isaiah envisions. We long, we hope, and when that child comes, let’s indeed make His dwelling among our hearts, “glorious.”

So let’s have a little Christmas spirit this season, not limited to our favorite Christmas hits!
